POTTERY/METAL DESIGN ART TEACHER

REQUIREMENTS:

·       Valid Washington State teaching certificate with an endorsement in Art

·       Bachelor of Arts degree in Art; Master’s preferred

·       Strong knowledge and skill in pottery or metalsmithing and willingness to develop skill in the other

·       Ability to instruct students in the elements of design, studio practice and construction techniques for the given mediums

·       Successful experience teaching art to high school students preferred

·       Knowledge of Washington State education trends and the use of technology in the classroom

·       Experience and/or training working with diverse learning capabilities ranging from special education through gifted including at-risk students

·       Must be willing to team with other specialists

 

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:  The position will have access to the Pottery and Metal Design art rooms. Oak Harbor High School has a well-equipped Art program. Examples of student instructional units are:

 

·       Pottery: pinch, coil, soft slab carve out/add on, wheel, sculpture, glazing

·       Metal Design: wire work, soldering ring/pendant, lost wax casting, primitive casting, stone setting, forging, chain making

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Terms of employment for a 1.0 FTE teacher during the 2016-2017 school year include a 180-day work year and supplemental pay, which is available after meeting district requirements. Each employee is also eligible to receive twelve sick leave days and three annual leave days. Salary placement is based on the State Salary Schedule. For the 2016-2017 school year, the base salary ranges from $35,932 for a person with a Bachelor’s degree and no experience to $67,725 for a person with a Master’s degree + 90 credits and 16 years of experience. This is base salary only and does not include additional days. During the 2016-2017 school year, $780.00 per month is provided to help a full-time employee defray the cost of health premiums that includes mandatory dental, vision, and long term disability insurance; and optional medical, salary, and life insurance. If employed less than full time (1.0 FTE), days, salary, and health premiums are pro-rated based on FTE.
