IDEA Center Summer Student Worker

Purpose for the position: The IDEA Center is looking for an undergraduate student currently enrolled for the 2018-2019 school year to help us support the mission of the “be Known” promise through our work in career and academic advising. In this position, you will have the opportunity to impact the experience of incoming students and their families as they seek out guidance in the enrollment process and begin to envision their future after Fox. You will be a resource for parents, students, and faculty alike as they seek to connect with our office and the services that we provide. We also serve as a professional office that interfaces with businesses looking to hire and/or recruit George Fox students.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  1. Engage students, parents, faculty and staff around the mission of the IDEA Center.

  2. Provide customer service to students and employers via email, phone and in person.

  3. Develop new marketing resources for classroom presentations, Genesis events, website, social media, etc.

  4. Support IDEA Center programming during Genesis events.

  5. Manage Handshake by filtering through job and employer postings.

  6. Assist in gathering and analyzing report data for office record keeping.


Minimum Requirements / Qualifications:

  1. Basic knowledge of office equipment and computer programs including Google docs, LinkedIn, Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as the ability to learn new software systems (Handshake).

  2. Strong customer service skills; previous experience is preferred.

  3. Demonstrates professionalism in their interactions with others  and in presentation of self.

  4. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; plus if bilingual (i.e. Spanish or other language that reflects our community)

  5. A commitment to working with a diverse population of students is essential; demonstrated experience in this area is preferred.

  6. Demonstrates high levels of integrity, able to maintain confidentiality.

  7. Ability to understand and follow instructions, and work independently.

  8. Highly dependable and punctual.


Preferred Qualifications (but not required):

  1. Familiarity with the Handshake online system.

  2. Experience in Desktop publishing (creating attractive documents in Word/ Publisher) or

  3. Ability to use Adobe Suite for designing handouts, campus screens, posters, and visual data reports etc.

  4. Experience in creating or designing video / animation.
